Fellowships & Initiatives

There are some great opportunities out there where fledgling screenwriters can learn more about the craft, network with seasoned professionals, and broaden their knowledge of the industry. Some schemes have been around for a long time, others can pop up and run for a year or two before the funding runs out and they disappear. Always do your homework. Some programs ask for a fee, so read the small print and understand exactly what you're signing up to as well as what your chances of being accepted are first. Here's a comprehensive list of what's running just now: -

*Dates and links are liable to change, but I'll try to keep this list up to date as much as possible. If there are any initiatives or opportunities we've missed, let me know and I'll add them too.

Screenplay Contest Comparison

Winning or placing highly in a reputable screenplay contest is still a very viable way to break into the industry, but with so many contests out there, how do you know which ones to enter? Winning a cash prize is awesome, but will the short-term prize money really boost your screenwriting career? Entering tons of contests can be a costly endeavour, so here's a comparison chart to help you quickly determine which contest offers what. Know what you want to get out of a contest before entering. Sure, there may be better odds to place in a lesser-known contest, which can be a great boost to the ego, but it probably isn't going to impress any industry professionals. Plan your contest submission based on what you want to get out of a contest.
